Friends of Richards-DAR
House Museum Foundation

The Friends of the Richards-DAR House Museum Foundation’s (RDARHM) sole purpose is to support the House Museum financially. The Friends Foundation is separate from the Richards-DAR House Museum Governing Board. Although the City of Mobile owns the Richards-DAR House Museum, DAR members from the four Mobile chapters volunteer their time as guides and provide some funds through tours and two-yearly fundraisers for repairs and needed updates. The Friends Foundation is a welcome source of additional funding for special projects that will benefit the one-hundred and sixty-year old historic House Museum.

The Friends Foundation sponsors the Four Seasons Lecture series named for the allegorical figures in the magnificent ironwork on the front galleries. Exceptional guest speakers are invited to the House Museum each season to share their expertise on a variety of topics. This past year’s attendees enjoyed lectures on coin silver, antique chandeliers, personal stories of two extraordinary women, one who lived in Germany during WWII, and one who grew up in Mobile and had some amazing experiences as a stewardess for Waterman Airlines in the late 1940’s and was well known for her pronunciation of the word war. The cost of the lectures is $15.00 which also includes refreshments.

The Friends Foundation also sponsors book signings by local authors whose books often highlight local, state or world history as well as books on a variety of other subjects. The book signings are free and open to the public.

An annual membership may be purchased for $25.00 which entitles you to free admissions to the lectures and email notifications of upcoming special events. Please contact the Richards-DAR House Museum at 251-208-7320 if interested in membership or additional information.
